Broadly labeled the crossover, these are also called the Crossover Utility Vehicle. As the name suggests, these vehicles are another form of utility vehicles – a type that makes a shift over from a traditional form to a new one. Crossovers are always based on the same platform as a regular hatchback, and blends in the features prevalent in the original vehicle along with those that are seen in an SUV. Crossovers have all the features of a sports utility vehicle like spacious interiors, high seating, high ground clearance and all-wheel-drive capability. But a major disadvantage is that crossovers do not have the capability to ride on the off-roads.

One of the earlier Crossovers was the Palio Adventure. The Italian giant also came out with the Fiat Avventura. Other promising launches include Toyota’s Etios Cross and Volkswagen’s Cross Polo.
