Mahindra Thar was launched as a perfect blend to ease the desert drive, and to ensure the adventurous drive in the year 2010, by the fast growing Indian automobile giant. The rugged appearance and the 4X4 drive make the ride subtle even in the roughest terrain. The singular design and devilish outlook makes the SUV even more eye-catching. The Mahindra Thar, before launching in India had been a great success in South Africa. Although this new version has included a number of modern and sophisticated features, the SUV still sticks to their traditional outlook and design. The on-road price for this car ranges from Rs. 12.11 lakhs to Rs. 17.16 lakhs for the petrol variant, while it ranges from Rs. 13.81 lakhs to Rs. 17.40 lakhs for the diesel variant.
Exterior
The bold and prominent creases on the body of the new Mahindra Thar provide not only an edgy look but it also shows the great performance offered by the SUV. The typical circular headlights retain the traditional look and make them more powerful. The retro styled front glass, broad tyres, cornered indicators that are found right above the lifted and rear view mirrors adds to that extra rough look to the SUV providing them with a rather more masculine profile. The signature front grille holds in the logo of the manufacturer. For ease out the entrance and the descending from the SUV, footrests are provided. The overall dimensions of the SUV include a length of 3985 mm, 1855 mm of width and a height of 1844 mmm. The ground clearance offered by the SUV is 226 mm.
Interior
The interiors of Mahindra Thar are spacious and offers a rather more descent head and legroom to ensure that the passengers doesn’t lose the comfort of the risky and bumpy rides. The vehicle is designed to comfortably accommodate upto seven passengers. The open roof top ensure that the passengers are given a naturist and adventurous ride. The gear and the steering wheel stick on to their traditional outlook which provides a rather rough look to its interiors. The latest version of the Mahindra Thar comes equipped with air conditioning system which is never observed in any off road SUV before.
Engine & Performance
Mahindra Thar gets two powerful petrol and diesel engine options, the first being the 2.0 litre mStallion 150 TGDi Engine with BSVI emission norms and the second being the 2.1 litre DOHC mHawk 130 diesel Engine again with BSVI emission norms. This petrol engine produces a maximum power of 150 hp at 5000 rpm while a max torque of 320 Nm at 1500-3000 rpm, while the diesel engine produces a maximum power of 130 hp at 3750 rpm while a max torque of 300 Nm at 1600-2800 rpm.
Safety
The new Mahindra Thar is equipped with all those safety features to ensure the complete safety of the passengers within; especially in an off- road drive. The strength, rigidity and shock absorbing facility of the car is provided by the traditional ladder frame chassis and body on frame construction. Leaf spring suspension with shock absorbers is an important safety feature for the DI version of the SUV whereas the CRDe version includes IFS with torsion bar and stabilizer bar together with the rear semi elliptical leaf spring. For ensuring the complete safety of the SUV the vehicle comes with suspensions together with the immobilizer that make sure the passengers are safe and sound inside the SUV.
