After bagging the 2008 “Car of the Year” award in Brazil, Fiat India Automobiles ltd. (FIAL), a joint venture between the Italian auto manufacturer Fiat and Indian auto giant Tata Motors, launched the Fiat Grande Punto in India. With its chiseled lines, muscular contours, exceptional driving dynamics, elegant interiors and promising safety features, Fiat Grande Punto is a dream car for Indian hatchback buyers. This 5-door hatchback comes in 8 different variants: Active, Dynamic, Emotion and Emotion Pack with both petrol and diesel fuel options. Designed by the renowned Italian car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Fiat Grande Punto exhibits a world class exterior look. In general, the car gets a very shiny and a smooth finish. From the front, the car gets a very aggressive and a mean look due to the long flat rectangular mesh grille embossing the Fiat logo. The headlamps are curvy and small giving it a cute and charming look, whereas the rhombus shaped fog lamps placed on the lower bumper give it sharp and jagged look. The short bonnet endorses an engraved ridge to give this car a sporty look.
From the side, Fiat Grande Punto is decked with the distinctive 15” alloy wheels. Another significant feature on the side is the distinctively protruding side rear view mirrors. All the handles are body colored and chrome plated. Even from the rear, this car gets a dashing and striking look due to the smooth rear bumper and trunk. The tail lamps are vertically integrated on either side of the rear windshield. The line shaped reflectors horizontally integrated in the rear bumper, stop lamps on the rear ceiling, Fiat logo on the trunk and the stylish “Punto” written on the right side of the trunk, all add up to the aesthetics of this mean machine. Hyundai Grande Punto measures 3987 mm in length, 1687 mm in width and 1495 mm in height with a high ground clearance of 195 mm.

The Italians have not left a single room for complain as far as the interiors of Fiat Grande Punto are considered. This car is a blend of luxury and sophistication. With its dual tone dashboards (black and grey), it looks rather classy from inside as compared to other hatchbacks. Features like the Blue and Me TM hands free feature, My Car feature to customize its setting and the powerful air conditioning with automatic climate control add up to the overall comfort and luxury of the car.
Other features include the rear foots air conditioning vents, power windows with delay feature, leather finish on steering wheel and gear knob, tilt able steering wheel and height adjustable driver’s seat. The higher variants (Dynamic and Emotion) also include electrically adjustable ORVMs and double foldable backseat with 60:40 split for added space and comfort.
The Fiat Grande Punto gets both petrol as well as diesel engine options just like any other hatchbacks in India. The petrol variant again comes with two engine options, the one being 1.2L Fire petrol, and the other being 1.4L petrol. The 1.2L petrol engine produces a maximum power of 68 PS @ 6000 rpm and a max torque of 96 Nm @ 2500 rpm, whereas the 1.4L petrol engine produces a maximum power of 96 PS @ 2500 rpm and a max torque of 115 Nm @ 4500 rpm. On the other side the diesel variant gets 1.3L multi-jet engine producing a maximum power of 76 PS @ 4000 rpm and a max torque of 197 Nm @ 1750 rpm.
