Succeeding the huge success of Nissan Micra (known as Nissan March) in Japan, the Japanese auto manufacturer Nissan started a manufacturing plant to expand its operations in India with base in Chennai in 2010. The all new fourth generation Nissan Micra was unveiled at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show and was launched in the Indian Market in July 2010. After considering the success of Nissan Micra in India, Nissan has decided to launch a number of new models in the coming years like Nissan Murano, Nissan Qashqai, Nissan Pixo and Nissan ULC. Even with its all-new V-platform development, highly sophisticated cutting edge technology, smooth and sleek design and state-of-the-art features, Nissan Micra ranges between 4.2 – 6.4 lacs.
Nissan Micra is one of the smallest hatchbacks in India. Though it is tagged as feminine and bubbly, one cannot resist its cute and adorable exterior looks. At the front, Nissan Micra looks similar to Porsche Turbo or Porsche Boxter, incorporating slanted elliptical shaped head lamps. It possesses a very short bonnet with a slight bump at the center which gives it a U-shaped ridge like appearance. The front grille is kept rather simple and endorses a single smooth chrome plated lining. The large trapezoidal air dam and simple rounded fog lamps on its either sides fit into the body colored front bumper improving its overall aesthetics from the front.
When viewed from the side, the boomerang shaped roof not only improves the overall aerodynamics of the car but also reduces wind noise at high speeds. Body colored handles, sporty side bumpers, large windows, dual color (black with body color) ORVMs with integrated turn indicators and 15” alloy wheels, all add up to the stylish appearance of Nissan Micra. Not only from the front and the side, but also from the rear this Japanese machine creates a simple yet aesthetic impression. Features like clear lens tail lamps with integrated turn indicators, reverse lights, body colored roof spoiler, rear defogger and rear wiper and washer enhance the looks of this car. Nissan Micra measures 3780 mm in length, 1665 mm in width and 1530 mm in height with a ground clearance of 154 mm.
Nissan Micra not only looks great from outside, but also from inside. The insides are decorated such that this car gives a competition to the other Indian hatchbacks. The dual tone grey colored dashboard illuminated with orange backlit and blackout themed instrument panel with white peripheral rings give impressive look to this car. All the interiors have been given a circular theme. Other interior features include smart multi-display instrument cluster (providing outside temperature, real time fuel economy information, cruising range, etc), power steering and windows, three spoke leather wrapped steering wheel with mounted controls, automatic climate control system, remote central locking, electronically foldable and adjustable ORVMs, push button start, leather wrapped gear knob and leather upholstery, integrated audio system with 4 speakers and AUX-in-Port and numerous holders and compartments. With a large headroom and legroom, this car is indeed a very spacious and a comfortable ride.
The Nissan Micra gets both petrol as well as diesel engine options just like any other hatchbacks in India. The Petrol version is powered by a 1.2L three cylinder DOHC, 12 valve engine with Electronic fuel injection control system producing a maximum power of 76 PS @ 6000 rpm and a max torque of 104 Nm @ 4000 rpm. On the other hand the diesel variant is powered by a 1.5L four cylinder SOHC, 8 valve engine with common rail powertrain producing a maximum power of 64 PS @ 4000 rpm and a max torque of 160 Nm @ 2000 rpm. Both these engine gets five speed manual transmission.
