Ford unveiled details of Apollo edition Mustang to pay tribute to NASA’s Apollo mission program. The Ford will introduce this one off special edition Apollo inspired Mustang to Experimental Aircraft Association’s (EAA) annual air venture show starting from 20th July to 26th July at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.
Ford is an official sponsor of EAA Air Venture show Oshkosh 2015 and as per the tradition over past seven years, this Apollo inspired Mustang will be auctioned and donated to support EAA’s ‘Young Eagles’ program. The ‘Young Eagles’ program provides free introductory flights for young people to boost and encourage their interest in an aviation sector. More than 1000 aviation enthusiasts are expected to attend this auction. This is the eighth year Ford has created aviation themed Mustang to support Young Eagles program.
The Apollo edition Mustang is a custom 2015 Ford Mustang GT with 627hp, 5-liter V8 engine. The custom package includes a ford performance supercharger and shifter, Forgiato 21 inch wheels, six piston Brembo brakes and sport tuned suspension. The exterior has given two- tone black and white paint job with red accents on the top and mirror caps. The red ‘USA’ sticker and flag symbolize Apollo space shuttle that inspired it. Other distinctive features include a carbon fibre front splitter, two air vents on the hood, rear diffuser and underbody LED lighting.
The interior of Apollo themed Mustang features leather upholstered sporty bucket seats, modified instrument cluster with performance gauges and Apollo project emblems decorated on the back of front seats. Ford has not yet published any official details about the interior and we have to wait until Annual Air Venture Show kicks off to get more details.
Ford said, “The entire Apollo program was extraordinary – one of our nation’s greatest achievements. With this year’s stunning Apollo Edition Mustang, we salute that spirit of American ingenuity with the quintessential – Ford Mustang”.
Last year Ford developed and auctioned Thunderbirds Edition 2014 Mustang GT that took design cues from F-16 Falcon fighter jet of US air force.
