The French auto manufacturer, Renault established its market in 2005 in India by collaborating with Mahindra & Mahindra to manufacture a sedan and tagged it as Logan. It did not work out as well as it was expected to be, so Renault and Mahindra parted their ways in early 2010. After years of research of producing a competitive D-segment luxury sedan, Renault launched the Renault Fluence in May 2011 with its manufacturing plant at Oragadam on the outskirts of Chennai. Renault Fluence is a classic blend of attractive looks, smart and user-friendly features and superior performance. Currently, it is one of the leading sedans in the Indian market ranging from 1.8 – 15.5 lakhs.
Renault Fluence looks extremely dynamic and sporty, yet simple with its unique appearance. The design is kept simple and bold rather than fluidic. From the front, its long bonnet with its extremely distinct, but dominant ridges; silvery chrome finish embossed logo; black rectangular meshed upper grille; engraved headlamp cluster on either sides of the nose, rounded fog lamps on either sides of long and dominant smiley shaped lower grille, all amplify the charisma of this car. The lower front grille sits very low giving a low ground clearance from the front as compared to the rear which makes it look sporty.
From the side, the forward leaning structure of Renault Fluence gives it an overall aerodynamic appearance which makes it look sporty. The arch-shaped roof, body colored and silver finish door handles, embossed ridges below the doors and electric powered ORVMs integrated with turn indicators render a dynamic shape to the car. The rear of the car is much bolder and aggressive than the front. It houses an attractive boot endorsing the logo and the name of the car in bold chrome plating, a sleek spoiler, leaf-shaped tail lamps spread across the tail side and the trunk, rear glass electric defrosting and raised body colored rear bumper featuring parallelogram shaped fog lights at its either sides and round exhaust pipe. Renault Fluence measures 4618 mm in length, 1813 mm in width and 1488 mm in height having a ground clearance of 170 mm.
The strong feature of the Renault Fluence is its exquisite interiors, involving wide range of features for comfort. The front cabin endorses a soft touch dual toned dashboard made up with premium fabric upholstery and featuring high definition multimedia, impressive instrument panel with glittering backlight, display board, speed proportional electric powered tilt-able four spoke steering with mounted controls, fabric covered shift gear and numerous buttons to control Auto Bi Zone climate control AC, radio, AUX, CD, USB, mobile phone, etc. As far as the passenger seating and storage is concerned, the five seater Renault Fluence comes with illuminated glove box, lumbar support, storage box and cup holder at the front arm rest, ample headroom and legroom for the front and back passengers, leather seat covers, head restraints and seat belts.
The Renault Fluence comes with both petrol & diesel options. The petrol variant gets 1997cc four cylinder inline engine with multi point fuel injection system. This engine produces a maximum power output of 137 PS @ 6000 rpm and a max torque of 190 Nm @ 3700 rpm. On the other hand the diesel variant gets a 1461cc four cylinder inline engine with direct injection system. The maximum power developed with this engine is 110 PS @ 4000 rpm and a max torque is 240Nm @ 2000 rpm. Both these types of engines gets manual transmission with 6 forward and 1 reverse gear, however the petrol variant gets an additional Advanced CVT II system.
