Fiat Viaggio-expected launch early this year

The Italian automobile company is ready to launch its all-new premium class sedan, the Fiat Viaggio early this year in the Indian auto market. Debuted at the 2012 Beijing International Auto Show, this Chinese version of Dodge Dart symbolizes an ideal journey between Italy and China. Fiat has been looking forward to set a strong foothold in the Asian markets so as to counterbalance the steady sales decline in the European market. These efforts included launching of new models for the Korean and Chinese markets and also reconsidering its joint venture with Tata Motors in India. The Fiat Viaggio design is sculpted with bold grille, clean lines and elegant poise to keep the brand’s identity. This vehicle being totally different from its Dodge siblings, boasts of unique blend of sophistication and technology thus having a truly desiring blend of power, dynamics and fuel efficiency.

Exterior

Designed by Fiat Group’s Style Centre in Turin, this Italian beauty is elegantly designed inside out. The Fiat Viaggio has a timeless, clean-surfaced expressive exterior design with a contemporary Fiat “face” that ensures that the vehicle has an unmistakable brand identity. Having derived most of its architecture from the world best-selling Alfa-Romeo model “Giuletta”, one can clearly see the clean surfaced expressive exterior design elements that blend with its strong proportions. At the first glance, the modest grille design looks classy but overall front fascia has taken minimal inspiration from Dart. At the rear the taillights with  are placed separately in two units instead of the full width design. Fiat Viaggio measures 4,679 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width and has a wheelbase of 2,708mm. Also the 10 spoke 16 inch alloy wheel made out of aluminium makes this vehicle a benchmark in the C-segment.

Interior

The interiors of Fiat Viaggio has been characterized keeping in mind driving centric philosophy. Although this vehicle has been designed based on Dodge Dart which is termed as a boy racer’s dream car, the Fiat Viaggio on the other hand is made as a gentleman’s ride. Starting from the front, the vehicle gets a multifunctional dashboard with a 3.5 inch electronic information display screen, and a 8.4 inch touchscreen media center. The cabin is well decorated and the center console has a floating island bezel integrated with other modern features in the car. The audio controls of the vehicle are mounted on the three-spoke steering wheel.

With a seating capacity of five with sufficient legroom, and additional AC vents at the rear to keep the occupants cool; this vehicle provides enough comfort for passengers making short or long journey.

Engine & Performance

Fiat is ready to spoil the new demanding customers with its unique blend of power, fuel efficiency, technology, sophistication and vehicle dynamics. Jointly being produced by Fiat and its Chinese partner Guangzhou Auto Company, the Fiat Viaggio will be basically available in two engine variants; a 1.4 Litre turbojet engine producing 120 HP and 206 Nm of Torque and  another 1.4 Litre turbojet engine which produces 150 HP power and 230 Nm of peak torque. These engines will be mated to Fiat’s latest generation 6 speed dual dry clutch transmission, and alternatively will have option for the well-tested 5-gear manual transmission.

Conclusion

The Fiat Viaggio will be ready for launch in India early this year and will be placed in the most competitive C-segment targeting potential young customers. Currently having gained a good response from the Chinese customers, Fiat is thinking of the same response from the Indian and other potential Asian consumers. The price range of the vehicle is expected to be in between Rs 9.5 lakhs to Rs 14 lakhs.
