Eicher Polaris launches personal utility vehicle Multix for Rs 2.32 lakh
In 2012, Eicher Motors Limited signed a strategic joint venture agreement with US based Polaris Industries Inc. to design, develop, manufacture and sell a full new range of personal vehicles suitable for India and other emerging markets. The Joint Venture will allow Eicher Motors Ltd. to enter into a new vehicle segment. In 2013, the JV company- Eicher Polaris Pvt. Ltd (EPPL) set up its manufacturing facility in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
The first vehicle from the famous Eicher-Polaris alliance is finally here. Called the Eicher Polaris Multix, this vehicle is being targeted at small-scale business men, traders and farmers. From family to business, Multix is purpose-built to take care of your ever-evolving needs. And it doesn’t stop there. With its X-Port feature, Multix can generate electricity, introducing unprecedented flexibility and utility to the businessman’s life. It’s the first of its kind. It’s a game-changer. Its new 3-in-1 acts as a people carrier, goods carrier for business and a power generator.
The Multix has a Flexi tuff body, a tubular frame structure and roll-over protection system. It has a kerb weight of 650-750 kg. The Multix is claimed to be India’s first ‘personal utility vehicle’, and can also be used for ambulance applications, says the company. It is priced between Rs 2.32 to Rs 2.72 lakh, ex-Showroom, Jaipur.
The Multix is based on Roll-Over Protection System (ROPS) with a Pro Ride Independent suspension system. It has a ground clearance of 225 mm, and comes with a durable ‘Flexituff’ body. The Multix also comes with X-PORT, which can generate up to 3 kW of energy which can be used for lighting homes and powering equipment like water pumps and drilling machines.
The Multix has taken a lot of testing and has undergone a whopping 18, 00,000 kilometres road test but as for some reason there aren’t any logos of Eicher or Polaris but the multix comes with its unique logo.
The Eicher Polaris Multix will be available in two variants, the base AX+ and the MX. The AX+ will have an open rear loading bay with 418 litres of load space whereas the MX gets an optional cover which can increase the boot space to a shopping 840 litres. The Multix AX+ will also not get any doors and will get a bare tubular frame chassis whereas the MX does get doors and a set of roll down windows making it more suitable for private use.
Need extra storage space? Don’t worry the Eicher Polaris Multix converts from a 5 seater to a two seater in just a jiffy. All you have to do is dismantle the rear glass from the C-pillars and fix it on the B-pillars and also fold the rear seats. Your trunk space is doubled!!
Overall, the Eicher Polaris Multix is a whole new segment evolved and designed keeping in mind the expectations of the Indian market. Expected to be in dedicated showrooms on July 2015 and vehicles can be seen on road in the month of august. Until then drive safe.
