5 hot hatches of India

Postby The Stig » Sun May 01, 2016 4:00 pm

Once upon a time all the Indians cared about was "Kitna deti hai ??". Not anymore because there is a gradual increase in sales of performance cars and people are more oriented towards numbers than just looks and fuel economy. With a rapid increase in urbanisation the car community is also growing at a rapid rate. Although this list may not contain cars that are launched but the cars mentioned will be launched prior to December 2016.

1) Volkswagen Polo GT/GTI

A crisp and elegant hatchback from the Germans, Launched back in 2009 it performed pretty well in terms of sales. Then came the polo GT with 104 BHP and a 7 speed DSG gearbox followed by the 190 BHP GTI launched in march 2016. These may not suit the practical person but only automaniacs who are obsessed with power. German engineering has made sure that the car handles well and is pleasure to drive. The gt costs 9 lakhs ex- showroom and the GTI costs around 20 lakhs.

2) Fiat Punto Abarth

Launched on 19th October 2015 the abarth is a performance version of the stock car. Fiat flagged off the punto abarth and the avventura abarth editions. The punto abarth comes with a 1.4l power mill that churns out a power of 145 BHP and 0-100 is under 8.8 seconds. With bold stripes and scorpion design alloys the car is a keeper. The scorpion comes with a price tag of 10.2 lakhs ex-showroom.

3) Ford figo 1.5 petrol

A peppy hathback from Ford with an engine option of 1.5l which is at the top of the line, Apart from Ford's strong build quality, safety and service. This motor gives a power output of 104 BHP which makes it a lot more fun to drive. With good handling and performance on a straight line or around a corner the bigger engine option just makes driving more fun without loosing on fuel efficiency and practicality. This is priced at 7.2 lakhs Ex-showroom.

4) Baleno RS

Premium hatchbacks being the new trend Suzuki has nailed it with the Baleno, good looks and premium feel is the thing that has made it a mass seller (6236 units feb 2016). All that this hatch needed was more power and that wish was fulfilled by Suzuki by showcasing the Baleno RS in the 2016 Delhi autoshow. The RS will have a 1 liter Turbocharged engine just like the Ecoboost engine from Ford. This Boosterjet engine will have a power output of 110 BHP and will compete with Elite i20 and Polo GT. Expected Launch, July 2016. Expected Price, 7.80 - 8.50 lakh.

5) Swift Sport

A legendary hatchback that has been a global achievement for Suzuki with over 5 million units sold world wide over 50% that is from India and around 15000 units are sold in India every month. Well Volkswagen Polo GT is undoubtedly the best. However, it would be pretty expensive compared to the other hatchbacks shown here..
