This is the first of its class in India, The Tata T1 Prima-Truck Racing (first season held on 23rd March 2014). With the rise of Motorsport culture in India we have seen some development in this field over the recent years. We have seen all types of gear-head action from Off-Roading rallies to straight up quater mile drag races and must mention the Formula one that took place a couple of years back too. Here is another event from that list "The Tata T1 Prima-Truck Racing".
This time it is all about trucking and its glory. The only race of its category to be held in India. The race is organised and will take place as per the approval of the FIA (Federation Internationale de l'Automobile), One of the core responsibilities of the FIA is the development of motor sport worldwide and also our home grown Motorsport authority - FMSCI (The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India).
With an event of international recognition the track too has to keep up to the standards. As a result the T1 truck racing will take place on the best track that the country has got - The Buddh International Circuit.
The trucks :
The trucks were modified based on the BTRA (British Truck Racing Association) guidelines. Some serious weight reduction, Braking system upgrade, A better cooling system that can cool down the monster engine and 22 other modifications were done to the Tata Prima truck to comply with the performance and safety regulations. These trucks are finally inspected by the FMSCI authorities and certified for the race. These trucks shell out a massive power of 370 BHP @ 2100 RPM and a top speed of 130 Km/h. Pretty fast around corners too thanks to its lowered center of gravity. The race truck is powered by an 8.9-litre, In-line six cylinder diesel engine. That’s a displacement of roughly 1500cc for each cylinder.
The team :
It has came to light that there will be 12 trucks and 6 teams participating. Official data is not out yet but two-time British truck racing champion - Steve Horn and many other international racing drivers will be participating. It doesn't end there, There will be Indian drivers too who will be selected by the Tata T1 Driver Programme which concentrates on spotting and encouraging young talent in India.
The event is to be held on 20th, March 2016 at Delhi and it will sure be a lot of fun !!
